McPhee – I wonder about my #parenting abilities too!

Dear McPhee, can I say that your evenings are extremely similar to mine in terms of getting on with household chores – with the exception of the sleeping husband – mines usually watching football. Likewise my mornings ring a similar tune. However unlike you where you await with baited breath as to which Revel will greet you, mines generally a given. I’m greeted with a lion bar each and everytime! Until this morning that is.

It all started yesterday evening. I picked Kennedy up from mums and upon my arrival was greeted with a somewhat grumpy child – not an uncommon greeting may I add but I continued to the kitchen. My mum apologised profusely as she had had my nephews that day too and as a result Kennedy had refused a afternoon nap – hence the mood. Through gritted teeth I smiled and said no problem inside I was beginning to boil as I knew I was in for an evening of tantrums. However it wasn’t as bad as expected with some persuasion and silliness Kennedy was washed in her jim jams and into bed by 8.15pm. Now most evenings I’m sat there with her for a good half hour waiting for her slumber to strike but not last night she jumped into bed and was fast asleep within minutes! She slept through the night too – an added bonus as of late she has been waking at around 2am. This morning it was a reasonable 6.30am and instead of the usual lion bar I was greeted with a small box of Cheerios! She was a joy, cooperative in dressing – she even let be brush and clip her hair back – a massive fete in a morning.
So where most mornings I question myself as you do, this morning I didn’t. We sang songs and had a pleasant journey to mums, again unusual, but I’m not complaining.
This evening has panned out pretty much the same as yesterday however less grumpy albeit again she hadn’t had a nap, we managed a bath and eveything! She is currently in bed sound asleep for the last 50 mins, and I’m hoping the morning will also go as today – fingers crossed.

So McPhee keep calm and carry on you’re doing a great job! So here’s to Friday!!! Oh hang on – we are mothers – Fridays mean nothing anymore…

Yours, poppins xxx

One Mother to Another

When the kids go to bed, I’m my own person. And generally that’s when I run round and sort the house out – dishwasher on, wash out, washer on, sandwiches made, ironing for tomorrow done, kitchen tidied. Ahhh breathe. When I eventually sit down that’s when I reflect on the day with The Husband, talk about how intelligent and funny William is and how Matt is adorable. And then I pat myself on the back and say “I’m a good mum me”. I go to bed and generally have a crap night’s sleep. In the morning I yawn and prepare for, what I like to call, the Parenting Trials.

As Matt is still a baby, he’s generally no bother although I occasionally have to remove him from impending danger – choking hazards, getting stuck under the furniture, launching himself out of the patio door. If you’re a mum, you’ll know…
